After having postponed my flight to Hong Kong a number of times during 2010, I was finally able to make it to Hong Kong – probably a good thing I postponed it till the week of HK Film Art 2011. Wow. I’d forgotten how much fun it was attending conventions (I think the last big one I attended overseas was way back in 1997 for the Music Industry in Cannes.
Thanks to my friends at Alive Not Dead, I scored not only entry to the HK Film Art, but also some very cool invitations to events – including the pre-opening night red carpet event, the 5th Asian Film Awards and After party and a few other events during the week. Thanks Raffi!
From when I arrived on the Sunday 19th March till the following Sunday, I pretty much got to check out the film business in Asia from the hundreds of production companies, distribution agents and distribution channels all in one place!. . There were heaps of seminars everyday, as well as film screenings of course, but unfortunately I didn’t get much of a chance to check those out.

Pretty much my schedule consisted of walking around the HK Convention and Exhibition centre HK Film Art Hall, and chatting to all the various companies and getting a feel of the film market, but also seeing what opportunities there were for me as a host in the greater Asian region. Having something happening every night made it very difficult for me to get up the next day!
